3 How to enter the library
Because a system for entering and leaving the library is set up,please pass through
"entrance" gate when entering the library,and through "exit" gate when leaving it.
User can enter the library with his luggage on him.
4 Limits on borrowed materials* and loan period
Undergraduates(including research students) 3 books 2 weeks
Graduate students(including doctoral students) 5 books 5 weeks
*All including magazines
5 Borrowing books
For books having bar-code label, user can complete the procedure by himself usi-
ng ABC(Automatic Books Circulation)Library card(identification card) is nece-
ssary to use this machine. The procedure for borrowing books that do not have
bar-code label should be done through the counter.
6 Renewals
Books that have not been reserved for other readers can be renewed(only once).
The procedure of renewing is the same as borrowing which can be done using
ABC machine.
7 Returning borrowed materials
As when borroing, user can return books that have the bar-code label using the
ABC machine, and then put them into the box provided. Library card(identification
card) is not necessary. For books not having the bar-code label,please do the proc-
edure at the counter. Users are asked to observe strictly the loan period.
The ignorance of returning overdue books can lead to the suspension of user's bo-
rrowing right.
8 Reading in the library
Reading materials of any field in open-shelf reading room in the 1st floor can be
used freely. After use, please put the materials back in the same place where you
found them.(Materials are arranged according to the classification numbers. Other
users will be unable to find the materials if they are put in a different shelf)
Undergraduate theses that the library houses are those of students graduating until
March 1994. The theses of students graduating from March 1995 onwards are kept
in respective laboratories.
Newspapers and general education materials are placed in the hall at the 2nd floor,
and can also be used freely.
9 Using the stack rooms
Please enter the stack rooms with caution, as some parts of the rooms have low
ceilings, and there might be a jutting out on the base of the third floor. Books and
journals are shelved according to the categories below, and therefore, after use,
please check carefully and put them back to the original place.

10 How to find library materials
OPAC(Online Public Access Catalog)terminal is placed in the open-shelf reading
room in the 1st floor and second floor. It can retrieve the materials acquired since
March 1991 and those retroactively inputted as well. To search the materials acq-
uired before March 1991, use card catalogs(by author, for example).
11 Reference service
The reference service is offered to support studies, surveys, and researches. Use-
rs are encouraged to ask such questions as the location of materials, the use of re-
ference materials, and information retrieval.
12 Document photocopying
Black-and-white copy machine can be used for 10 yen per page, after filling in "m-
aterials duplication form." To use color copy machine, user needs a copy card of the
professor or lecturer. User who does not have copy card needs to take the procedure
of copy lending service at the counter.
13 Inter-library-loan(Copy service)
Materials not held by this branch library can be borrowed from other university
libraries(only for university professors, staff and graduate students).
14 Use of other university's libraries
If you want to go to and use other university's library, please apply in advance. For
university professors, staff, and graduate students, an inter-library(of state universi-
ties)user card might be issued upon request.
15 Other rules to be observed
(1) User must keep quiet in the library. Whispering and any actions that might dist-
urb others are not permitted.
(2) Materials should be handled with care to avoid any damage.
(3) Readers are expected to pay for lost or damaged materials.
(4) Do not take books out of the library without completing necessary procedures.
When materials are improperly taken out of the library, an electric signaling de-
vice, which is installed at exit gate, will mske buzzing sound.
(5) Eating and drinking are not allowed. Do not bring any food, gum, juice, etc. ins-
ide the library.
(6) Smoking is not allowed in the library.
(7) Ignoring library rules or staff's instruction can cause the suspension of user's rig-
ht of utilizing the library.
